NEW TO CLIMBING?

NEVER CLIMBED BEFORE?

Well here at the core is the best place to learn! We believe that everyone is capable of climbing, you just have to get started!

Let's look at what you'll need to start climbing:

Climbing Shoes

A climbing shoe is a specialized type of footwear designed for rock climbing. Typical climbing shoes have a close fit, little if any padding, and a smooth, sticky rubber sole with an extended rubberrand. Unsuited to walking and hiking, climbing shoes are typically donned at the base of a climb.

Harness

A climbing harness is a device which allows a climber access to the safety of a rope. It is used in rock and ice climbing, abseiling, and lowering;

Liquid chalk

Rock climbers use liquid chalk to prevent their hands from sweating. It is preferred by athletes because it remains effective longer and leaves less residue on rocks and equipment. Since liquid chalk does not leave a white residue, it is an environmentally friendly alternative.

TYPES OF CLIMBING

Bouldering

Bouldering is a form of free climbing that is performed on small rock formations or artificial rock walls without the use of ropes or harnesses. When you climb with us, our staff are available to instruct you how to fall correctly and manage risk and safety on and off the wall. Having an ability to assess for hazards and risk is also very important as there are inherent dangers in falling, even onto mats. We'll take you through the correct forms of falling and how to climb safely.

top roping

Top rope climbing (or top roping) is a style in climbing in which the climber is securely attached to a rope which then passes up, through an anchor system at the top of the climb, and down to a belayer at the foot of the climb. The belayer takes in slack rope throughout the climb, so that if at any point the climber were to lose their hold, they would not fall more than a short distance. All climbers and belayers must complete a top rope belay check before using our rope walls. Participants are assessed on their competence and risk management throughout the check and could be asked to repeat some steps.
