Private Guiding

Let us design the perfect day to meet your climbing abilities and personal schedule. With our knowledgeable Rock Guides, you will be sure to climb the most classic routes for your ability. Private days are for the experienced and novice climbers alike; we can accommodate all ability levels and provide appropriate challenges for all. For experienced climbers, we will introduce you to the best climbing areas while you fine tune and develop your climbing. This is the perfect environment to push your comfort level with the aid of a guide. For novice climbers or as a family activity, you will enjoy a rounded climbing experience with an understanding of what rock climbing entails. Our experienced Guides will introduce you to a variety of climbs and climbing styles including sport and trad climbing and perhaps some of our world famous multi-pitch climbs.

Prices are per person and all equipment is included. For Squamish trips, an additional $30 fuel surcharge fee applies if transportation is required. 72-hour cancellation policy.

Outdoor Rock Climbing Trips

Want to climb but not sure what to do. Consider letting us lead you on a half-day or full-day tour of some amazing climbs in lush old-growth forests or on bluffs overlooking the ocean.

Our closest area is only a 15-minute drive from the Whistler Core. A vast selection of climbs is nestled in an old growth forest where you are welcomed with incredible vistas of the glacier-capped Tantalus Mountains while you enjoy a variety of climbs and rappels. The Core developed this area over the last 20 years and has exclusive rights for guiding rock climbing in Cal Cheak. This particular climbing area, provides an excellent array of routes suited for all levels of climbers and is a perfect adventure for kids, adults, families or even as a corporate event.

Rock Climbing Courses

1. Introductory Outdoor Rock Climbing

We cover all the essentials such as climbing safety, equipment, movement skills, outdoor climbing strategy, belaying and rappelling, hazard management, rock climbing terminology, route selection, climbing grades, bolt and tree anchor building, top rope set up and much, much more. Our goal is to ensure that all participants will build a powerful foundation, which will allow for ultimate safety, excellent technique and a rapid progression.

Objectives: Through discussion, demonstration and participation you will learn to:

  1. Sport climbing hazards and safety protocol
  2. Understand of topo and grades and how to assess appropriate routes to set up top-ropes
  3. Current belay techniques using a belay tube and GriGri and communication with your partner
  4. Evaluate and build safe anchors (natural & fixed) and use extensions and directionals
  5. Lowering and rappelling
  6. Securing yourself at anchors
  7. 2nd a climb and retrieving gear from a fixed top-rope station
  8. Work on climbing skills and drills to develop your technique.

DURATION & COST

  • 1.5 - days - $175.00 - Minimum 4 people required
  • Day 1: 6:00PM – 9:00PM – Location: The Core – indoors
  • Day 2: 8:30AM - 4:30PM – Location: Cal-Cheak (meet at The Core)
  • Prerequisite: desire to climb something
  • Equipment required: Will be supplied. Participants will also receive 10% off non-sale product in the Pro Shop for up to 1-week after completing the course

2. Lead Climbing On Sport Routes

Goal: To safely lead single pitch sport routes, plus learn invaluable climbing techniques.

Objectives: Through discussion, demonstration and participation you will be able to:

  1. Develop strategies to safely and efficiently lead a route
  2. Belay a leader with a variety of devices
  3. Efficiently manage a rope
  4. Place quick draws properly - straight gates, bent gates, direction of gates, short - long draws, bolt hangers, pins
  5. Select clipping stances
  6. Build and organize a rack
  7. Understand how to fall and experience falls while being backed-up
  8. Build anchors
  9. Continue working on climbing skills and drills to fine- tune your technique.

Duration And Cost:

  • 1 day - $140.00 - Minimum 4 people required.
  • Day 1: 8:30AM - 4:30PM - Location: Cal-Cheak/Cheak-Canyon (meeting TBA)
  • Prerequisite: belaying and building a top rope anchor is an asset.
  • Equipment required: Harness, belay device and climbing shoes.

3. Lead Climbing on Gear Routes

A 2 day comprehensive course covers protection placement and removal, belaying the leader, lead strategy, fall factors, and crack climbing technique.

Goal: To safely lead single pitch gear routes using efficient crack climbing technique.

Objectives: Through discussion, demonstration and participation you will be able to:

  1. Develop strategies to safely and efficiently lead a route
  2. Choose from a variety of ways of building, selecting and racking gear
  3. Utilize direct and redirected belays
  4. Assess quality, direction of loading & strength of gear placements
  5. Utilize runners to minimize rope drag
  6. Build uni-directional and multi-directional anchors and placements
  7. Select clipping stances and develop crack climbing skills and techniques.

Duration and Cost:

  • 2 day - $295.00 - Minimum 4 people required
  • Day 1: 8:30AM - 4:30PM – Location: Squamish (meeting TBA)
  • Day 2: 8:30AM - 4:30PM – Location: Squamish (meeting TBA)
  • Prerequisite: Top-rope anchors course or equivalent experience is required. Sport lead climbing experience
  • Equipment required: Harness, 2 locking Carabiners (preferably pear shape), 4-6 D-shape non-locking carabiners, ATC style belay device, climbing shoes, prusik (1.5 meters - 7mm accessory cord), cordalette (5-6 meters - 7mm accessory cord), 6-8 quickdraws, 2 shoulder slings, 50-70m climbing rope. Recommended but not required: selection of cams and nuts.

4. Rope Rescue

Would you know what to do if you or your partner were injured on a multi-pitch climb?

Goal: This course increases awareness of potential rescue situations and if the circumstance arises, how to perform a rescue for you, your partner or other climbers in need of rescue.

Objectives: Through discussion, demonstration and participation you will practice the basic components of a simple rescue system by learning how to:

  1. Escape from the belay system
  2. Do rescue raises and lowers using a variety of devices and systems
  3. Perform emergency retreats

Duration and Cost:

    • 1 + day - $140.00 - Minimum 4 people required
    • Day 1: 7:00PM-10:00PM – Location: The Core Climbing Centre – indoors
    • Day 2: 8:30AM-4:30PM – Location: Cal-Cheak (meet at The Core)

    • Prerequisite: Lead Climbing Experience
    • Equipment required: Harness, 3 locking Carabiners (preferably pear shape), 4-6 D-shape non-locking carabiners, ATC style belay device, climbing shoes, prusik (1.5 meters - 7mm accessory cord), cordalette (5-6 meters - 7mm accessory cord), 6-8 quickdraws, 2 shoulder slings, 50-70m climbing rope. Recommended but not required: selection of cams and nuts.
